Hello and Guilty Pleasures

Howdy! 

Yeah, I know.  You thought I already had a blog, right?  Well, you’d be correct.  Technically, I do have two.  But – I discovered I couldn’t do a lot of the things with Word Press that I can do with Blogger.  So, here I am, back again. 

But it’s all good, right?  I mean, as much as I like to run my mouth, three blogs for one person isn’t much, is it? 

So, to start off my new blog, I have two things to say:

1) I will try and start posting some free reads for you to read. 

2) I actually have a topic for you today as well.  OOOOOOOOOOOH.  Yeah.  I know.  Scary.

So, about the free reads… I have a cute and fun one (minus the smut, sorry) that is a prologue of sorts to a full-length bit I’ve been working on.  As soon as I get it edited, I will put it up for grabs.  Yay, right?  Well, maybe. LOL

And now, about that topic… Today’s topic is guilty pleasures.  What’s yours?  Is it chocolate?  Chick flicks?  Hot men?  Do your guilty pleasures feed the body, the mind, the soul or all three?  And are you embarrassed at all by this secret desire?

At this point, you must be wondering just what my guilty pleasure must be.  Kinky sex?  Dirty books?  Nope, I’m going to disappoint you by telling you it’s nothing so interesting.  Quite the opposite – it’s rather more mundane.

Fanfiction.

There, I said it.  And I’m not ashamed.  Or rather, not too ashamed. LOL 

I never realized it until much, much later, but I started writing fanfiction at a very young age.  The storylines in the cartoons I watched never were quite what I wanted… so I made them into what I wanted by taking my favorite characters and giving them free reign.  It started with G. I. Joe and moved on to Transformers, Thunder Cats and onward.  Yeah, scary.  I hear ya.  But it was what got me motivated to write in the first place, so I guess there is some merit in there somewhere.

So, years and years later, when I stumbled upon www.fanfiction.net, the first thing I looked up was G. I. Joe.  And then Harry Potter.  And then…  You get the idea.  My current obsession is Chuck fanfic (from the NBC series on Monday nights.  What?  You don’t watch Chuck?  Insane.) and I keep wondering why didn’t I look for this sooner?  I may never know, but I’ve found it now and I’m hooked.

For those of you who know me, you’ve got to be wondering why this is so shocking.  Well, if you really know me *cough*Red*cough* then it probably doesn’t surprise you.  But, if you are shocked at how such a minor, normal thing gets posted on a blog with the address of Mika’s Naughty Mind… you won’t be surprised when I say that I’m into slash. 

Yeah. 

Yummy, isn’t it?

I love reading about the main male characters getting hooked up and (sometimes) sexed up.  It’s fun to watch Chuck Bartowski totally put John Casey in his place with a simple look.  Or to see Harry completely win over the maudlin Draco Malfoy with a simple smile…  It serves to remind us that things are never as cut and dry as we’d like them to be.  And that there are chances everywhere, even in the unbelievable. 

It’s good for the creative soul. 

And I like it.
