…they seem to be EVERYWHERE these days. Tiger Woods. Jesse James. Freakin’ David Boreanaz (didn’t see that one coming, I can tell you that much). Who’s next? And is any woman safe?
And don’t you just LOVE the way these women act as if they were the ones wronged in all this? I mean, seriously, if you just met a guy off the street and truly had no idea, okay, I get it. But um, hello… when you’re screwing a celebrity, then I’m guessing you probably already have a really good idea…
But my point here was not to bash men at all. Why? Because women do it to. And their excuses are just as bad as the men’s. At least the men are more honest in their denial. My point is… this stuff affects the way I write. I’m a real romantic at heart, I believe that love truly can conquer all… but sometimes, those that you’re with make it awfully damn hard…
I don’t know much about the personalities of any of the men I mentioned above, but I do know my husband. I know that he wouldn’t go out seeking a secondary relationship… but what happens if he ever did find one? What then? He’s always been 110% good to me, supportive of me, and a genuinely honest, loving man. So, where do you draw the line?
And when do the things you hear and read and see start to change the way you view the world?
When do they start to work their way into your writing?
When I broke up two of my favorite characters, I admitted to having been ‘in a mood’ and just needed to cause some havoc in SOMEONE’S life. Ali just happened to been the one caught in the crossfire. Sorry, babe, but it happens… no hard feelings?
But now that I stop and think about things, I wonder where the idea came from. Was it the media slowly leaking into my subconscious, causing these thoughts of infidelity to percolate in my brain? Or is it an inherent mistrust of men? It can’t be that I don’t believe in love (it’s never worth the pain that you feel… LOL) – I’ve been married for over twelve years, so it must be obvious that I DO.
So, where does it come from?
And the really pressing question of the day is… do I HAVE to fix it? It IS just fiction after all…
